Gestatten: Erdling!

„Of all the films I have ever made, this is the one that gets people talking the most. For every one person who sees Earthlings, they will tell three.“ Joaquin Phoenix

350

There are only a few numbers that mobilize people from all over the world. I think 350 just creates a movement that is very agitating – milions of people have already joined it and made little actions or professional demonstrations! You want to know what this number is all about? Check out the Video below and www.350.org

Get out and make your own little protest!

How many earths do you need?

Each country has limits for using the earths resources. Germany used up its resources by the end of May... German efficiency - whatever!

Our globe is quite big – and still it is not big enough. It is not new information that our western lifestyle is way too extravagant and cannot be expanded to all societies of this world. Okay, but how should we live and to what extent can we keep our habits? Nobody might give that anser. But there are methods that try to navigate us towards a more sustainable lifestyle. The Ecological Footprint is one approach for communicating limits of the earth’s capacities.

In general, the Ecological Footprint compares our lifestyle to the capacity of the the earth’s resources. Everything we need for food, clothes, travels etc. needs space on earth or is somehow created ot of the earth’s resources. In addition, we create a lot of waste which needs to be disposed – on our beloved earth. The Ecological Footprint is able to show the amount of space each of us needs in order to realize his lifestyle. It also shows when the annual capacity earth is spent each year. In Germany this happened on May 23rd. What this means? Well, that we Germans steal a lot of resources from other countries or regions like India or the Amazon. You think that this is not fair? Then check out your own ecological footprint and find out where you might reduce it.

The Swiss World Wildlife Fund created a virtual reality game connected to the Ecological Footprint. You can choose your own Avatar and walk around the city. It stops once a while at random places and asks about your habits and lifestyle. At the end you find out how big your real footprint is. It’s quite funny. Check out here!

Die Rechnung bitte!

Ist der Klimawandel schon da? Wo kommt er denn her? Und wer hat ihn denn gemacht? Wer schafft ihn wieder weg?
